Danish circus elephants waiting

Four Danish circus elephants have been waiting in their stables since the Danish Parliament in 2018 decided to work towards a ban on wild animals in the circuses. After a long period of boredom and frustration during the wait, the animals became the property of the state in a trade on August 31st this year. After that, it must be clarified who will be the final buyer of the elephants and a transitional phase must be organized.

After a tender round with only one bidder, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Knuthenborg Safari Park in Lolland, has chosen to hand over the state-owned elephants to Knuthenborg. Stables and enclosures, etc. expected to be completed in eight months. During that time, all four elephants with the support of the Animal Protection will be housed at the Circus Arena at Slagelse.

It is now under discussion what will happen to the elephant Ramboline’s companion friend, the camel Ali. Knuthenborg has announced that the two will not be offered space under the same roof in the safari park.

Danske cirkuselefanter venter
